Leiria is a Portuguese city located at Centro Region. With 50,000 inhabitants, it is the main urban centre in the sub region Pinhal Litoral. Agriculture, tourism, and state-run public services, such as education, health and public administration, are important sectors of activity, but Leiria’s economy is also driven by light industries, as for example plastics and moulds, animal food production, milling, cement, and civil construction, among others. The urban waste generation was 401.5 kg per capita in 2015; the percentage of urban waste collected separately represented 9.5% .
